Microsoft Australia Pty Ltd
Lloyd recognised the enormous potential of emerging IT firm
Microsoft and joined the company’s Australian branch as National
Applications Trainer in Database and Development Tools. He quickly
became Technical Marketing Manager for the Asia Pacific region. In
1995, Lloyd worked on the ‘On Australia’ Telstra-Microsoft joint
venture, Microsoft’s first venture into internet services.
PowerUp Pty Ltd
In the 1980s, Lloyd and three friends developed a hobby company
called PowerUp. Run from a garage in suburban Brisbane, PowerUp
provided bulletin board access to other computer enthusiasts in
Queensland. By the early 1990s, PowerUp was growing so rapidly it
required Lloyd’s full-time attention.
Lloyd was the driving force behind
the company’s success as it became one of Australia’s largest
internet service providers (ISPs). PowerUp provided sophisticated
services for customers beyond internet access, such as allowing
customers to self service their own websites and email access.
OzEmail bought half of PowerUp in
1998 and the remaining business in 2000. The transaction valued
PowerUp at $12 million,
WebCentral Pty Ltd
In early 1997, Lloyd saw a growing need in the Australian market
for internet services designed specifically for businesses. In
response, he established WebCentral to provide business web hosting.
WebCentral is now Australia’s largest web hosting company, with more
than 60,000 sites and domains under management and annual revenues
in excess of $40 million.
In 2004, Lloyd and fellow
shareholders sold their remaining stakes in Web Central to its
existing significant shareholder FTR Holdings Limited for $19.6
million, which valued the WebCentral business at more than $40m.
XtreamLok
In August 2004, Lloyd became CEO of XtreamLok, a company of
which he was a founding investor. XtreamLoc develops digital rights
management software that is used by large software publishers. The
company’s software is installed on over 30 million PCs around the
globe. Lloyd facilitated the successful sale of XtreamLok to US
security company Symantec in May 2005 for US$17.5 million.
SinoCode Ltd
Lloyd founded SinoCode as a new generation offshore development
centre in 2004. SinoCode leverages China’s high-quality developer
expertise to produce software for customers in Australia, the UK and
the US.
Event Zero Pty Ltd - The Future is Event Processing. Lloyd is a founding shareholder and Director of Brisbane based Event Zero Pty Ltd. Event Zero as developed a Complex Event Processing CEP platform which is design to provide organisation with Real time operational intelligence by analysing very large amounts of data in real time from disparate data sources. CEPs are seen as the future on IT systems, as business rely more and more on IT systems there is a need to add “Real Time” analysis to existing Database systems.
Going Green – a CEP Application The Event Zero Platform is used to create the GreenTrac product set. Greentrac provides large organisations with real information of the PC Fleet such as energy usage, ideal time, potential energy cost saving, Power Management and PC Fleet life cycle management.
SonarLogic – Go to market SonarLogic is a Distributor and Reseller of Greentrac and Event Centre in Asian and European markets, with offices in China, Philippines and United Kingdom.

PipeNetworks
PipeNetworks operates one of Australia’s largest metropolitan
fibre optic networks, offering clients in Adelaide, Brisbane,
Melbourne, Perth and Sydney access to its ‘Dark Fibre’ service. The
company also operates Australia’s largest internet exchange, with a
network across six capital cities.

represented Queensland as a board member of the IIA for two years.
He also spent a year as Deputy Chair.
